JIN BAO, PANTAI INDAH KAPUK

Another Chinese dining place around PIK area! Been eyeing this place since the first time they opened the door a few months ago. Finally, have time to visit Jin Bao with a proper lunch with friends. They served their specialty, Sheng Jian Bao (生煎包) and handmade Baos from Shanghai – China.

Not a usual Chinese family restaurant, Jin Bao serves their food mostly in personal bowl portion (not for sharing) and current hype refreshing drinks like cheese tea, matcha, and other flavored drinks. Locating in Ruko Metro Broadway, with one door you might either found or miss the place easily.

The place is silent when we coming in even its at lunchtime, but feel good too because we can take picture freely. We choose to sit on the second floor, beside the window because the lighting is much better than the first floor. First, we ordered this cheese tea and lotus chips for the light bites. (oh yes I love lotus root so much, I couldn’t miss this!)

Sheng Jian Bao (生煎包) is a type of small, pan-fried baozi (steamed buns) which is a specialty of Shanghai. It is usually filled with pork and gelatin that melts into soup/liquid when cooked. Shengjian mantou has been one of the most common breakfast items in Shanghai since the early 1900s. As a ubiquitous breakfast item, it has a significant place in Shanghainese culture.

And for the main course, we have a bowl of Spicy Mapo Dan Dan Noodles, 2 homemade baos (Pulled Pork Katsu Bao Fried and Salmon Fried Bao) and Shao Kao Beef Bowl.

Pulled Pork Katsu Bao Fried (Toasted Bao)

Salmon Fried Bao (Fried Bao)

Shao Kao Beef Bowl (IDR 65)

Food taste was also pretty suitable for us. Spicy Mapo Dan Dan Noodles is addicting. The pulled pork and fried salmon was super good. Except for the bao, I like the bao toasted better than fried. The fried bao feels a bit too oily for me. Last for the beef bowl, the meat was tasty, not too chewy, good enough. But the rice is overcooked and too mushy. Yet, the overall food experience here was great!
